The SuperScoot (2000 R1100RT)is going in shortly for THE BIG SERVICE ($hudder) and it's time for a new battery. I got 27,000 miles and four seasons out of the factory battery, which is about the best I've ever done with any bike. I have maintained this battery by just putting it on the charger once a month for 6 hours over the winter and charging overnight when the new season begins.

Since it makes sense to do it while the bike is disassembled, I'm replacing the battery. Would anyone like to suggest some battery alternatives?

Thanks. See you in Spokane.

I had to replace one battery while in Daytona. Dealer had stock replacement $99.95. Since then I have had 2 more batteries needed for my "S"s. I got them on e-bay from Gruber Technologies for $34.95 + 12.90 shipping same warranty, 1 year. . and am very happy so far. They are called sealed , but they can be opened for service easily They are the cheapest available from Gruber, we'll see. They also have them for 2 higher prices for higher rated batteries. I am sure they have web site direct sales.

I had a Panasonic sealed battery I got last year. It worked well until it got a hole in it during a crash

I'm currently running a WestCo sealed battery --now about 4 years old, in my '98 RT but I've noticed threads which report ABS fault problems attributed to low voltage at startup using sealed batteries. I've had those problems which I've successfully solved by allowing the ABS light to flash at least 3 times before hitting the "start" button. Recently I've noticed that is not working and had to ride about 150 miles a few weeks ago before the ABS finally activated after a fuel stop. I've notice the headlight cannot be on "high beam" before starting, or I'll get a ABS fault. I've also noticed that using the Battery Tender whenever the bike is parked helps the situation.

I'm considering the Oddyssey sealed battery (on ebay for about $59) as my next replacement. Others have recommended this battery.

I have a Westco sealed battery in the Airhead. It's been great -- 4 years and ~17,000 miles and still shows 10 volts while cranking, so it's going strong. I put a 1-amp charger on it overnight every three weeks or so during the winter. HTH...
