So my battery needs to be replaced and I thought I was familiar w the process. Nope.
I've got the tray loose and the frame bolts out and the battery tilted back against the rear fender and the front corners of the battery still hang up on the frame right behind the flattened are where those bolts attach. the fender keeps it from tilting back any further. I used to get the battery in and out of my '82 w/o nearly as much trouble. What is up?
Just more brute force? I've got a nifty piece of hoise w 2 hooks to grab the connectors for an EZ pull upwards, but still no go
I suppose I could take the breathers choke ass'y and air box out and get it out thru the side but jeezy petes!

Just to be sure...the bolts that attach the subframe are removed... It's definitely a tight fit for the Yuasa and Mareg batteries. I find that that point on the frame needs some help to stretch out some. See if you can get a smallish stout piece of wood to help coax the frame to widen a bit...it only needs a skoosh...

I have to remove the left side of the breather box and push the kick starter lever down to remove my battery from my '72 R60/5 SWB.
And yes, I've done it a lot lately. :stick
If there's a better way I'm all :ear

Let the rear sub-frame fall further away from the main frame by lifting up on the main frame - or having someone push down on the front end so that the rear of the main frame rises and the subframe/et al. drops a bit more.

Thanx, you guys I bet the wood idea and/or allowing the frame to move will do the trik!

So I allowed the frame to move a bit and the battery exchange was accomplished. Now my THEORY is that if I take the bike off the center stand, that will put pressure on the front end and move the frame sections back together so I can install the two bolts and the grab handle.....right?

...install the two bolts and the grab handle.....right?
I've never had to actually remove the grab handle...I think the only bolt/nut I removed was the one on the opposite side.
As for reinstallation, just reverse the process you just went through! :stick

On my 75 R90/6 I remove the airbox and filter then slip the battery forward and out.

...just hit town.....wasn't that a lyric to some 60's rock anthem?
any hoo. Yeah I was just trying to avoid taking the airbox etc off, and so w just a little effort and a little leverage it came apart and went back together. For those who attempt this for their first time; if both bolts are removed, the frame slips apart j-u-u-u-u-st enough for the battery to squeeze thru the opening. Then if after replacing the battery if you pull up firmly on the back end of the frame, but not so hard as to knock the bike fwd off the centerstand, all those bolt holes can be lined up and bolts inserted and ...:dance Vi-ola!
thanx to all above...no, not Him you guys!

As that line from the Muppets band (Dr. Teeth and the Electric Company - Pink Floyd, lead guitar) goes, "It's Easy When Y'all Knows How!"
