I just replaced the rear tire on my 2000 R11002. The tire is a Bridgestone BT-21. I now hear a noise which seems to correspond with the revolution of the tire. Hard to emulate the sound but here it goes - whaa - whaa -whaa. The faster I go the quicker the sound gets. I have ruled out final drive, transmission, brake calibers -so it must be the tire. I have deflated the tire and the noise is still there.

Could this be a tire balancing problem?

Any other suggestions would be more than helpful.

Try running in gear on the center stand (block the bike up to avoid any expensive surprises) and see if the noise is still present.

If it isn't you've narrowed it to the pavement.

Check the tire rotation from behind to see that the wheel and tire are running true. It is possible that the tire and wheel are out of round or otherwise deformed.

If they are true and good check the tire for problems with the tread or excessively hard compound.

After that

I'm not familiar with you particular tire, but it sounds like the tread singing. The more aggressive a tire tread is the louder it sings. whaa-whaa-whaa is the sound an 18 wheeler, many SUV and pickup truck tires make, especially if 4 wheel drive.

I have Metzler ME880s on my K. The front tire has cupped and when I lay into a turn over 50mph she starts singing.

Was your previous tire the same?

I have put it on center stand, in gear and rev'd it up. The noise is not there so I know it has to do with the tire and pavement.

Previously I had a Bridgestone BT-20.
