When I start up my 07 Rt after it has been sitting for a day or two, I get a squeal that sounds like a fan belt slipping. I suspect it is the altenator belt. It only just turned 6K so whatever it is it is a warranty problem. Any Ideas? thoughts? recommendations?
Thanks

When I start up my '07 R1200RT, after an aggressive bath, it squeals like a stuck pig for a few seconds. I figure it's the wet alternator belt slipping until it throws off the water -- but, that's the only time the belt sings out.
I would have your dealer check it out. There is a scheduled alternator belt replacement, but that isn't scheduled until 60,000 Kilometers.

you know, that really makes sense. I always wash it before I put it up after my 'commute'. Since I just roll it back into the garage, it probably has the same symptom as yours.. There is another thread about hard starting after a hard rain storm.. wonder if there is some gaps in weather protection in the later models. I had the opportunity to ride in a 2 hour 'NoFla Frog Strangler' a little while back with no issues (other than the usual ones).

Bingo ! I have the same problem with my new 08RT. Currently it's in the shop waiting for the "600 mile" service. Me and my friend who got his at the same time put 850 miles on them the first weekend by riding to the Hill Country for a break in ride. Mine has the squeak while my friend's bike doesn't so the dealer can't say it's normal.
The squeak seems prominent at idle and low rpm. More so when cold. Accelerating seems to make it disappear though not sure since it maybe be changing frequency. I hear it while riding without a helmet and earplugs. ( short test ride just to listen)
The squeak is the first issue on the work order and the bike is hopefully going on the lift today. I'll report back what my mechanic has to say.
