'01s anybody?

Looking at a '01 F650 for sale and its got my attention. Are you folks doing good with these. I had a new'99 model(carb) F bike and its been years now since riding these. My wife likes the F650s and a used one may be in order. The '01 was the first year for these models, injected,etcetc.??? I ride the bigger brother GSA1200 nowadays and another F650 would be a nice addition for the two of us riding together:). Some opinions of the '01 here? THX, Randy13233:thumb :usa

I haven't had any surprise issues with my '01 Dakar. 34K on it so far (20 or so since I bought it 3 years ago). Anything that has come up I solved with the help of the Chain Gang. Some of the '01s had a surging problem, by this time most people have sorted them out.

I have a 2001 F650GS, and It is a great bike.
Easy to ride, handles great, plenty of power, Excellent on fuel.

You cant go wrong buying one.

I may go to the dealer and pick it up for the weekend, for a good test ride:). I've bought so many Beemers there, they usually don't hesitate loaning out a used bike. They are closed anyways for the remainder of the weekend(Sunday/Monday). I sure liked my '99 F650 and it was a fine bike, but I am in the dark, regarding the newer ones, therefore I ask:)....I am also an old Chainganger, life member:). Randy13233:usa

My daily commuter is an '01 Dakar. Not problems at all. Good around town bike and good off road. Easy to work on. My '01 is a single spark and returns around 52 mpg. I believe the later models, the dual sparks, get even better gas mileage - like in the 70s. Additionally, the Chain Gang faq is a great resource for doing your own wrenching. I have stopped visiting the forum because of all the drama there, but the faq can really be a help.
