I'm contemplating an upgraded exhaust for my 91 R100GS and was wondering what has been working well for other GS ers. Not overly concerned about cost at this time, more concerned about performance and efficiency, noise and offroad certification. (spark arrestor?)

So what are you running, why, major assets, drawbcks.

One peave I have is the oil filter housing being blocked, with the stock exhaust.

I have a '92 GS and I loosened the flange and clamps on the right header pipe and rotated it a little. Then tightened everything back. I removed a few milimeters from the length of one of the filter cover bolts and have no problems removing the filter plate.

It is? I never had a problem getting the cover off or inserting a new oil filter.

As for exhausts, there was a Supertrapp R100 GS exhaust on the R80 G/S PD that I bought. I didn't think very much of it. It was sold and a stock exhaust was ordered up.

As for performance gains, every exhaust comparo I have in my magazines, show insignificant gains, if any. In fact, most of the power curve is below that of the stock power curve...same goes for the torque curve.

I'm finding out that the general concensus is that the stock exhaust was designed well for optimum power band. So if there is no significant gains no point changin it, thanks for the responses.

The filter comes off easily on my '92 PD with stock exhaust.

And the only improvement I've ever heard of requires about 100 inches of pipe before you reach the collector to keep or improve the low end. Look at some photos from airheads that have been raced in the Paris Dakar rally and you will see some really long primary pipes that block access to the timing cover...but who really takes that off very often other than myself...

Has anyone removed the resonator??? Did it make any diference other that a little weight reduction?
