I saw an article on a website about removing the Air Injection Pulse Air System. (86 R80rt) I was wondering if someone can tell me what advantages or disadvantages there may be to removing it. There are no smog testing laws here in North Dakota so there wouldn't be a problem with that.

Sounds like it may be worth a try, keep all the original stuff around for later if you decide to change back.
Even when I get my new exhaust I will keep the old just in case, also helps in resale later. I have seen many air injection systems on ebay, so it looks to be fairly common change.

Snowbums article mentions plugging these lines rather than removing them because the adapter may be froze in the cylinder. I went to pull one of my lines to see what size ball bearing to buy and the adapters were both only finger tight! Just thought I'd post this as an FYI.......you may want to check your own and make sure they are tight.

I just did an air injectionectomy on my 82 R100. After 22 years, I got tired of the irritating mini explosions during warm up, also got an additional bonus: I solved an apparent vacuum leak problem I have been chasing for the past eight years. However I did not just disarm it: I removed it, plugged the hole with 16mm plugs and crushwashers and most importantly plugged the carb vaccuum ports with the proper screws and washers. Oh yeah, the airbox was plugged with timing port grommets. I am glad I did it.
I live in Mississippi where being environmentally conscious is throwing your empty beer cans in the back of your truck bed rather than on the side of the road, so emssion testing was not an issue.

Plugging of the "t" for the carb vacuum ports crossover is required, too. The coolest way is to obtain the Euro airbox bottom, which has none of the holes.
