This is probably a stupid question for most of you but here goes...

Will the 2009 F800GS have the same engine as the 2008 F800ST?

If you look at BMW Motorrad web site and compare both machines you'll find that specs are similar (attached below for reference).

The visual difference is best described in an article by Neil Graham in Cycle Canada magazine as:
"Most obvious visually is the forward bank of the cylinders, which are leaned over 30-degrees on the S and ST but only 8-degrees on the GS, a move to compact the mechanicals of the motorcycle to allow a shorter wheelbase. Internally the engine is similar, but with revised camshaft profiles to bolster low-end power to better suit the GS's mixed surface mandate." ...

Thanks Steve,

I have placed a down payment on the 2009 800GS in yellow. I believe several others have done the same at the place I bought my 1200GS. I was in Iowa last week at a BMW dealer and the salesman said he doubted that they would have any to sell off the floor in that most if not all of their allotment has already been covered with a down payment to hold the bikes.

I want an "extra" bike for my sons to ride when they come to visit, as well as my brother. Plus, I want to ride it myself of course. I want to give it a test ride when one comes in before I pull the trigger totally on a purchase. I like the looks of them and I am sure they will be a good off road - on road combo with the 1200 excelling more for the longer trips. Now, I just need to figure out how to break the news to my wife :)

Peace...
