I have a 2007 R1200RT and tried to fit Wunderlich Crash bars, they chafed the Fairing plastic so off they went. I just installed Touratect cylinder covers yesterday.
Thay are a quality item that looks good and NO Chafing problems.

Machine Moto are great. Easy to install. Good protection from tip overs and low speed slides. Look cool too.

I have the Touratech cylinder guards on my '06 RT, I think they look nicer than the BMW version and have hear that they hold up better. They worked well in my recent tip over - cylinder guard took the brunt of the fall and worked great. I have the black ones, so you can definitely see the result of the tip over, the silver ones would hide damage a lot better.

Do the screws that hold the Touratech guards needs to be tightened with a torque wrench, or just be hand tightened? I need to re-adjust my right guard after my tip over - guard bent in just enough (bent in about 1/32") to be compressing one of the rubber stoppers and I want to get some of that pressure off.

On my Roadster, I have the stainless guards that fit over the lower half of the valve cover and attach using the bottom of the two valve cover bolts. They are hardly noticeable when in place, and you can even remove the spark plug covers with the guards in place.
Their effectiveness is amazing in tipovers (don't ask, but I've had a few), and because they are bare brushed stainless steel, they do not gouge. I wish they were available when I had my R1100R and R1150R.
Now, if I could just remember who makes them....
Fred
Edit: Here they are - Verholen. Ignore the yellow spark plug cover; the guard is below it. I did not apply the "R1200" logo.

I too installed the Black Touratect covers and for the following reason. I can always spray paint a new black coating on the covers. Mine look good and with on chaffing issues.
