Just got back from a 7 day, 2400 mile, 8 state jaunt. Thankfully no EWS issues although I watched the computer screen closely a few times, especially when I was far away from anything close to a bike shop. Thanks to all the folks who post on here. It was nice to read and monitor and learn before I left. I went by myself and visited my sons and other family, among other things: Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, SD, Nebraska, ND, and Minnesota. I was going to try to hit International Falls and Duluth today but backed off because it was freezing cold, 35 mph wind, plus drizzle when I left from Wheaton, MN this A.M. I took a more southern route on new roads back to North Central, Wisconsin. Tremendous winds almost the whole trip. I saw a semi blown over about 10 miles west of Ft. Randall, S.D. on the Missouri River.
The 2008 GS did well. I adjusted the ride a few times when the roads got rough. That was nice and a noticeable difference to jump from "sport" to "normal" or "comfort"...kept it mostly on "sport."
Parabellum windshield with the GSA winglettes did pretty well with the wind but it was very strong and a cross wind much of the time. A safe trip and an enjoyable trip with no malfunctions. The weather is the weather and can't be changed.
I like the bike more each time I ride it and it is becoming much more familiar to me. Several people came up to ask me about "what kind of a bike is that?" along the course of the trip.
Peace and safe travels...
