Hi All -

I bought the Slime air pump for my tire repair kit, and went to try it out last night, and could not get it to work via the cigarette plug w/adapter. I tried it with the bike on (running and not running), hooking up the items first, then after the bike was on. The pump works, I tried it with the cigarette plug on my car. Is there a trick to getting this thing to work with the cigarette plug and adapter?

Thanks!

You don't say what type of bike but if I am not mistaken, the RT shuts down the aux plug with anything drawing over 10 amps and I think the ST's and such shut down after 5 amps.

I don't know how much the Slime pump draws but you might need to put in an aux recepticle that is wired /fused directly to the battery to run the pump.

Most Canbus equipped bikes, especially those with firmware updates, will not pull the load this pump requires. I went with a direct connection to the battery. There are "Canbus helpers" out there, like from Touratech, but I have heard of mixed results from those.

I have the R1200RT, so I guess I will need to go direct to the battery. Any concern using the non-insulated battery connectors (my owner's manual says to use insulated connectors only for jumer cables)? Also, for some reason my Slime Pump does not have the fused connector (although the directions says it should).

Guess I can return the auxilary plug adapter now. since it won't work with the
pump.

Thanks.

I always carry one of these pumps...works great. I also added a second plug (direct to battery) that I use for electrics in the winter. I use that outlet for the pump too (when the need arises).

The Airman Sparrow pump works when powered by my RT's front outlet. I also have the Slime pump which stays in the trunk of my RFT equipped BMW cage.

Interesting, my pump does not have the in-line fuse either. I did not notice that when I first bought it; guess I can install one. Also, the pump works fine plugged into the aux plug on my '05 R12ST.

The Slime pump works fine when plugged into the socket on my wife's '05 R1200RT with the engine running. I haven't tried it on my '07 R1200RT.

My Slime pump came with several power cord adapters -- cigarette, terminal lugs, battery clips, etc.

If the cigarette/socket method doesn't work, why not direct connect to the battery -- unless this is going to be the way you regularly air up your tires?

I installed a direct connection between the accessory socket and the battery for this very reason - to run my little Slime air compressor. I believe this "jumper wire" came from Touratech. It is "plug & play" with the same plug that fits the back of the socket, and it has its own fuse that fits atop the battery.

I wish I knew why BMW feels the need to limit the load on the accessory socket to eliminate reasonable uses like this.

Thanks all. I will try going direct to the battery, and I think I will change out the socket to go direct to the battery for future use.

Do I need to get a fused adapter when going direct to the battery, since the main power cord does not have thf use built in?

Cheers!

I would get a fused replacement. Powerlet makes one just for BMW's with CANbus.

The newer model bikes use the 042 series.
