OK, I've mounted my Touratech accessory shelf, no brainer, five minutes. Now I've got an Escort 8500 X50 and a Garmin Quest II to put up there. I'd like them to be removed when parked at night at a motel, so they must be removable. What's the best way? I've always used RAM mounts before but thought I'd give this method a try.

I'm installing a tap for power that shuts off with the ignition, also from touratech.

Thanks for all suggestions.

I have a GPS V, same shape as the Quest. I made a bracket out of .5" x 3/16" flat aluminum stock I bought at Home Depot, although the material should be avalilable at any hardware store. I don't remember the length I used, but you can figure that out. I drilled a hole in the bracket for the mounting screw, once that was done I determined where to bend the bracket so when the V was attached the lower part of the V's case rode lightly on the bracket. This was done to prevent the V from rotating around the screw. You don't want to put a lot of torque on the very small screw which will be holding the Quest to the bracket. I extended the aluminum bracket out in front of the V far enough to use two small screws, washers and nuts to attachet it to the shelf. It was not elegant, but not ugly either. At night I would remove the V by removing just the one screw which attached it to the bracket. There probably are commercial fixtures available, possibly from Garmin.

If you want, PM me with an e-mail address and I will sent you a photo.
