Any thoughts on Western Service Contract?

My dealer is offering me a Western Service Contract (extended warranty) that would add 4 additional years of coverage to my '08 R1200RT's warranty. Anyone have experience with this company? I am not as concerned with price as with customer experiences.

No, but I think in general you can buy an extended warranty any time before your factory warranty expires, so no need to let the dealer pressure you in to anything if you are on the fence and need more time to shop extended warranties, but you want the bike now.

You might also want to shop around on pricing and/or negotiate with your dealer, I have been told by more than one knowledgeable source that the "recommended" pricing of these service contracts often include upwards of a 100% markup.

What they said! Call Iron Horse in Tucson and ask for John Cartwright the owner, he'll hook you up anytime before your original warranty expires at a fair price. You have plenty of time to shop around unless you want to finance with bike.

Thanks all, as I said I am not concerned about the price I think it's fair. I was just wondering if anyone had good or bad experiences with the extended warranty, i.e. does the dealer support it (after they sell it to you), etc.

But bought it for my new'07 GSA1200, to 7 years, unlimited milage. I sure hope it works, because I usually always break the factory warranty barrier, well before three years/36K. This was my first time buying the extra coverage, so I'm in a learning curve here too. 800$ was my price and I felt well worth the cost at the prices on this bike to replace anything. Better work, or I'll be a tad upset for buying it and my dealer can explain why to me too, if I have trouble with it. Western is my company, too. Randy:deal

Motorcycle Consumer News this month had a short article on aftermarket warranties.. and they recommended you go to AM Best and Company and look at their rating of the company in question.

I'd also suggest looking them up at the Better Business Bureau website - where complaints against them can be researched..

You'll need the actual name of the company issuing the policy to use either service.. ("Western" is rather broad..)
