The Mobil 1 Delvac oil is meant to be used in deisel engines that last upward of 10K miles between oil changes.

Has anyone tried Mobil 1 Delvac in their oilhead engines?

No have not tried it, but I use Chevron Delo 400 which is the same type of product and my engine still runs and has not blown up so that is a good thing. Frankly the engine would not know the difference whether you put Mobil Delvac, Chevron Delo 400 or the Shell Rotellar (also the same product). These oils can be used and are very good for motorcycle engines and are name brand quality products. I say use what is most available to you, easier on the pocket book and you feel comfortable with.

Information from Mobil Delvac 1300 Super web site :

Mobil Delvac 1300 Super meets or exceeds the following industry and builder specifications:
Viscosity 10W-30 and 15W-40
API CI-4/CH-4/CG-4/CF-4/CF/SL/SJ

Note the viscosity.

The 15w40 will work fine and falls within BMW specs.

Not to split hairs, boys, but my rapidly-failing eyesight was unable to detect the title "Mobil 1 Delvac." All I saw, rightly or wrongly, was "Mobil DelVac," inviting the conclusion that this oil is not a synthetic oil like Mobil 1. Am I correct?

Talked to a wrench at Bob's BMW in Jessup, MD today, and he says the factory advises not to use synthetic crankcase oil until the 12,000 mile service, at the earliest. The above-referenced oil might be just the ticket until then, and even afterward, depending on the wishes of the owner. JMPO.

Hi You are correct it is not synthetic, it is mineral based but is a heavy duty oil such as Chevron Delo 400 and the Rotella.
