..I just got done re-torquing the heads and adjusting the valves.

You don't have to wonder "Did Roy put that off?"
I may have delayed it some,since it is May, but it's done.
Took about an hour.
There it is......done. I love/am an old Airhead.

Tomorrow, I change oils.

I build up a rhythm each week before a rally, doing this and that.
It all culminates on Friday, when I leave for said rally. I will look at a map, and try to find back roads all the way, it is my nature.
A familiar rhythm.

I've always wondered why the cylinder studs would need torquing.

I dunno. I usually re-torque at the beginning of the season. I loosen them a 1/2 turn and torque to final value. I used 28 ft/lbs. The valves always seem good and I rarely have to adjust them.
