Tired of the hand guards moving on your GS and locking the front brake? or causing the clutch to slip?

BMW has a kit that will allow you to install the hand guards from the 08 onto previous 1200GS models:

PN 71607706209

Extensions for the hand guards:

PN 71607705221, and 7160775522

To remove the extension from the mirror to the hand guard that is not required with the new design:

Clamp (2 req) PN 32727673917

Took less than a week for the dealer to recieve, and about 15 min for me to install. Pretty straight forward. Left the extensions off until cold weather returns.\

If anyone is removing the earlier handguards - and wants to fund the new ones - R1200R owners love the original GS handguards. I suspect you would find a ready market for the guards and the mirror brackets.

I'm glad you posted this Bob!

I have an '08 - never had an earlier version, and I have been wondering how so many folks were having trouble with slipping clutches/brake lock-ups etc. from handguards! That can't happen to me is what I was thinking!

So they fixed it for '08 - now it makes sense!

Not to hijack - but are the extensions worthwhile?

I love it. GS riders extending a helping hand to R riders. Everyone comes out a winner. :buds

I did not take any photo's of the install, but it is identical to what you see on a 08 GS or GSA. The 08 handlebar is a little differant due to the factory high riser, but the guards fit just fine.

I cannot answer if the extensions are worth the $ spent. As I stated, going to wait until cold weather returns (Yuma Az) to install. Hold your breath? Probably not until Dec or Jan.

Riders in colder climes might know months earlier than me.
