Just went over over 20,000 miles on my 06 RT and I'm loving every minute of it. I have had no issues with anything up to this point and would not hesitate to go anywhere on it at a moments notice.
Now for my question. I have noticed that for the last month or so when I set the cruise control and let off the throttle say at 70 MPH it will drop to 65 then regain the speed of 70. Today after setting the cruise I had braked, clicked resume and then went up to about 80 MPH let off the throttle and again it dropped to 65 before self throttling back up to 70.
Any ideas? I have an appt this Saturday morning with South Sound BMW where they figure there is nothing wrong with the linkage and plan to check the software.
I would appreciate your ideas / input.

I had the same response after 31,000 miles across USA/Canada. It is not as punctual and precise as a BMW car. Pretty normal as it is slow to catch up, overshoots a bit but eventually comes around to the designated speed. Love it and wish the 1200 GS had it.

The one on my 2005 seems quite normal. I've not experienced the symptoms you describe.

I too have an '06 and just turned 21,000 this weekend. I use CC quite a bit when on the super slab and can't say that I have had any issues similar to what you describe. Like everyone else, I absolutely LOVE my RT! Can't ever seem to get enough.

My 06 RT has 44K on her and she does that some too. I don't pay much attention to it and anticipate it. I doubt there's an issue, maybe the cables get a little dirty inside?

Does not do that, if it did I would get it fixed.

I have an 05 R12RT with just under 19K.* The cruise engages spot on, with no hunting.* When resuming from a speed less than the original set speed, the curise does not over shoot, or under shoot if resuming from above the original set speed.I've had the bike about 28 months and have taken it on cross county trips of thousands of miles, with absolutely no problems.* What a great motorcycle!!

It is good to know that I'm not the only one with this problem. I certainly want to get this fixed. When I pass a cage and the put it on cruise it is not good to slow down and make the cage brake while waiting for my cruise control to catch up. I find this problem to be very irritating and am surprised some of you with the same problem have not had it addressed. I will update you on what becomes of my service visit and who knows maybe we can all learn what causes this problem and you guys with the same problem can get your bikes cruise control fixed.

I have an '07 RT and have had exactly the same issue from the day I bought the motorcycle new. Figured it was just the way it was designed. Setting cruise control is no problem, but when I accelerate to pass and then let off the throttle the speed will always drop below the level I have set with the cruise control by about 5 mph and then will 'catch up' and come back to the set speed. It is quite disconcerting and somewhat frustrating, as I do a lot of highway driving and use the cruise control frequently.
Please update this post if the dealer suggests this is something that is correctable.

Sounds like something needs fixing, to me. I have an '05 RT and the cruise control works as I would expect it to -- when I push the Set button, it sets the speed at whatever I am traveling and keeps it there. Just my $0.02.

Agreed.
Have over 24,000 miles on my '05 R1200RT and the cruise sets with precision - no lagging or 'hunting' for the set speed.
Love it!

Have not had mine that long, about 2K miles. Mine sets correctly (no lag) and will speed up / down with the button just fine (still no lag). I have noticed that only when you are resuming, if you are going faster than the original set speed, it does drop below the set speed and then catch back up. (If you are going slower, the expected results happen.) Not sure but I thought this was what the original poster was describing. Never had another bike with E-Cruise but my 3 Chevrolets do the same thing to varying degrees and as to my recollection, my last 2 Jeep Grand Cherokees did too.. Not sure if it is right, just common..

Go figure, the weather warmed up and my cruise control started working perfectly on Friday the day before my appointment with the dealer to have it looked at.
After giving it some thought and figuring when it was cold it had the lag and now we get into the 80's and 90's and the problem resolved itself. I am thinking that perhaps the cable which goes from the cruise modulator to the box that your throttle body sync cables go to is perhaps having it's sheathing contract due to the cold weather causing the lag but expanding when the weather warmed up therefore no longer causing the cable to drag within it's own sheathing. Any ideas? Is there a good way to lubricate the cable therefore eliminating the potential for it to drag within it's own sheathing?
I would love see some of you other guys take your bikes in and get your cruise control problems resolved so we know for sure what causes this. I will take mine in if and when the problems returns.
For now I am happy camper and love my cruise control because it's working flawlessly like it's supposed to.
