I'm new to BMW. Just purchased a 2008 1200 GS. First day bringing it home I saw the Cylinder head leaking oil where it connects to the block. Dealer plans on removing and resealing. I have been told that there is no gasket used. Is this an issue that I should be concerned long term and is this a common problem. A bit of a concern since it has less than 100 miles so far.

Skup, I am not sure about the gasket, but: after being around (buliding/modifying) engines for most of my life I certainly would not get too wound up of an issue with a new bike. Anyone can have a manufacturing error from time to time.
I would think your dealer will be reasonable and fix it - as is expected and fair!
I am also new to BMW - just bought an '08 GSA as the first BMW I've ever owned too. I am pretty pleased with what has transpired with the dealership (we won't talk about my wallet) to this point.
It's a machine, and sometimes there are problems when new.
Once you get this fixed you will hopefully be a happy little camper out playing with the middleweight sport bikes in the twisties!
GS Does twisties pretty well!
Don't ask me how I know.

Your wallet is in grave danger from here on out!! "Farkeling" is dangerous yet addicting....remember...you are in control!!LOL
But seriously...don't worry about that freak of a leak, I've put almost 100K on Bimmers and have never seen a leak like that. You'll find quickly you are riding the finest bike on the planet.
