I'm an old dirt biker (and BMW noob) and still spend time standing on the pegs on the R1200RT. I know, I probably don't need to but old habits are hard to break. The rubber pegs are not much to stand on. Are RT and GS pegs interchangeable? I see lots of broad GS pegs but have never seen any for the RT. Other suggestions?

Thanks...

I have put a set of Fastway pegs on my R1200GS. They are significantly wider (fore and aft) than the stock pegs. The stock pegs on the GS were about the same width as on my R1150R.

Here is a link to the manufacturer. http://www.promotobillet.com/index.html It doesn't appear that they market a set for the RT, but the GS pegs might fit. They were a little surly when I called about a fit kit to use a set listed on Ebay.

Thanks Charles. It's the Fastway's that I've been looking at. I just hated to order and find out that they don't fit. Maybe I'll try calling Fastway and see if they know. I'm probably the only guy in the world wanting dirtbike pegs on my RT...

I looked today (I have a 05 GS and my brothers 05 GS was beside it). They will not fit. The basic difference is the GS spring mechanism is internal to the peg mount and the RT is external. This means the "C" shape mount points are smaller on the RT. The rear pegs are identical though and can be swapped.

Thanks GhostRider - I appreciate you taking the time to look and even post pics. I owe you a cold one (or two or three).

I was afraid of that. I guess I'll just have to get used to being a street rider...

Thanks again!

Are the Fastway pegs lower than the stock? I would like to move the pegs down just a little.

Wunderlich makes an extended pair for the RT. You might want to check them out at BMW of Santa Cruz county.

The Fastways are luxurious. They're about one inch(?) lower than stock if you put them in the low position. Additionally, with the much larger surface, I find myself riding with my foot farther forward. The combination of the two has greatly opened up the seating position. And, of course, they're great for standing while riding.

Installation can be a royal pain for something so simple (more on that later), but I'm *very* happy with mine.

Bumping this one up again.
GS footpegs won't work. Any new ideas?

Try getting in touch with Suburban Machinery. They make a lowered peg for the GS which is roomier than the stock peg, and they also are able to build custom pegs- ergo, they could probably make you a version of their GS peg modified to fit an RT.

Great folks, but no luck.
Open to any other ideas....

:stick swap to a GS? Jokingly posted! I have both...

Since the pegs do mount diff, I am thinking a one off type of fabrication. short of going to the floorboard style available you may have to be creative.

BINGO! I think that's the answer!

Related... sort of.

I've owned both R12GSs (2) and R12RTs (2).

I wanted to do the opposite. Install RT pegs on my GS.
Reason?
The RT pegs have a bit more rubber, which is also separated from the metal peg inside with an air space. This transmits much less footpeg vibration to ones feet. Much better for longer rides. On the highway, within an hour or so, my R12000GS, both of them, started my feet a tinglin'.

RT, no such problem.

Start your GS, kneel beside it, grab a footpeg with your hand, rev it up a bit.
It's surprising how much the pegs vibrate. Some feet don't notice. Mine did.

I took my RT out last weekend for it's first roadtrip and the peg vibration is the only complaint I have. Mainly my right foot. I'm going to see if different boots help (since I have so many).

Put fastways on my 05 gs yesterday and am liking them already.Got mine at Thumpertalk website for $106 shipped to il. when most places wanted $129.95 plus shipping. They came with long and short cleat screws and even a pack of red loc-tite for installing. Ed

Boxer engines vibrate, most/all engines vibrate. Short term exposure can be annoying, long term exposure can cause damage. Most folks just don't seem to notice, or at least find it tolerable.

1st thing to check is throttle body sync. Many say it has a big impact on smoothness.
If that's good, you may just have sensative feet, or maybe you're just "real tuned in".
A canary in a coal mine like me.
As I wrote earlier, my R12GSs were much buzzier in the footpegs than my RT.
Differance in design.
When riding my GSs, sometimes I would resort to duct taping foam insulation/padding on the pegs to provide a layer of isolation.
Not recommending that anyone do so however. Sort of messes with your foot control relationships.

Oh.. and maybe some top quality gel inserts for the boots... Another insulating/isolating layer.
