I would like to put better speakers on the stock radio on my r1150rt. Has anyone done this and how difficult was it?
I can't see what kind are in there or how to tear into this project.

Dennis,
The speakers are quite big, about 7 lbs. from what I have been told. They have a resonance (?) chamber that fills the fairing. your best bet would be to go to a pair of ear plug speakers for higher quality and volume. I run a pair with my Ipod. great tunes and great riding.
Good luck,
Ken

Some folks swear by Etymotic (I hope I spelled that right).

RadioShack, $21.95 and I use Hearos ear plugs with a hole down the center-made with a hot paper clip. Blocks out the noise, and allows great sound and good volume. Plus you can change your ear plugs as often as you like.

I have a pair of 'custom' molded plugs. Fitted by 'Arizona Al'. He does the impressions and send them to the lab which does the plug with speaker in them.
He also does standard plugs. 15minutes start to finish.
