1998 1100rt,no abs. It's absolutely quiet.Normal noise while taking off is gone, just have alternating idiot lights all the time,Checked relay and fuse in fusebox they are ok.Have not gone any deeper into it yet Any help appreciated. What does the code readout plug look like.Is it the blue plug under the seat?

Karl, you've found it - it should be the middle pin receptacle on the plug.

Do you know the procedure for clearing faults? (ground the plug, turn ignition on, depress the ABS switch for 7-8 seconds).

I've done this often enough that I stow a wire with an alligator clip on it under the seat, next to the plug.

If you reset it and it keeps coming back when you hit the start button, that is a pretty good sign that your battery is getting a little sleepy and may need to be retired.

i just put a brand new batt. into it after all the abs bullsh... and while i was at it i also did the relay mod. so the abs is not checking while the starter is cranking.Bike was running fine for the last 9 months. Now the abs hick-ups again.

I'm not exactly sure what you're saying. When you turn on the key, do the lights blink together? Then, do they alternate after you hit the starter? If so, that is an indication that the battery is not holding enough voltage during the start sequence to keep the ABS powered. In that event it is probably the battery. I have heard that happening from a starter problem, but I've never seen it myself.

BTW, what is the relay mod?

here is a website with the info

Karl,
Best thing to do is read the fault codes to see what error you are getting. Since you've done the low-voltage mod, you'll never see that failure again. :)
Anton has a good section describing the readout:

funny thing here.checked for fault codes and nothing came up.checked my relay mod. for good connections etc.all looks good.did the 8 sec. thing with abs off button, made no difference.as soon as i turn on the ignition switch i get alternating abs lights.looks to me like i am going to see the dealer with his brain box to take a look.hopefully it's not the abs brain.if so i ride without abs.

Karl,
Try the reset and fault code readout again, this time with the engine running. If you have the low voltage mod installed, you should have the upper lamp on solid until the engine is running. If both lamps are flashing BEFORE you start the engine, you have some other problem.

Read message #9 again. What fault code did you get?

If you have the modification, the faults need to be red with the engine running. The reset also has toe be done with the engine running since that mod prevents the ABS from initializing until the alternator has activated the new relay.
