Had a chance to ride a friends '08 KTM 990 KTM Adventure last week in Costa Rica. Definitely a fast bike in comparison to my '02 GS with tons of torque. I rode over a very bad dirt road and it tracked well, but I found the throttle obnoxiously touchy (IMHO) and the 990 did not "feel well made" though I'm sure it is. Maybe this is just due to the extra 100 lbs my GS weighs in comparison to the KTM. The KTM is probably better in the rough stuff than a GS, but I couldn't see logging many 750 miles days as I easily do on my GS. Just the very subjective opinion of a GS lover. Anyone else out there ridden the 990?

yeah, i really liked it (http://www.bmwmoa.org/forum/showthread.php?t=24796).... but i like my 1150GS more.
i didn't ride it off-road, but i can tell it would be better than the 1150. yet, i use my 1150 far more for LD riding, and it excels at that... along with casual dirt roads and easy trails.
as far as the touchy throttle, there is a fuel-mapping fix for that... it also cleans up the low-rev stumbling, which may be what you are talking about.
i guess it's a matter of taste. i feel the throttle on my GS is much more sensitive... and definitely even moreso on the HP2.
