I've never ridden a K75S. What can I expect compared to the RT? Will it be fun? :)

I've never ridden a K75S. What can I expect compared to the RT? Will it be fun? :)I own both, a '02 R1150RT and a '87 K75S. The K bike is lower, lighter, smoother, and handles beautifully. I am 5'10" with a 30" inseam; the R is a stretch for me and the K is perfect. Not nearly the torque of the boxer twin but the K's 5 speed box is geared accordingly. The K's riding position is much more forward and the grips closer together. I have more difficulty turning my head to look rearward on the K. Wind and noise are far greater with the K as it has only a very small windscreen and fairing. Yes, I would say the K75S will be fun!
IMHO the K is the perfect one-up-running-around-town-in-fair-weather machine. The R is my choice for two-up-loaded-long-distance-variable-weather-all-day-day-after-day-sport-touring. Everyone should own both!

Could you write a script for that? My wife might understand then.:)

I had two... they're closer to a sport bike than the RT. Very flickable.
They are smoother with no peg tingle, but a small fairing does have it's LD limitations, even tho' I took mine cross country.

slow
top heavy
tight-ish steering lock
less forgiving on rough roads, especially when it gets twisty
clunky ABS if equipped
freakishly smooth
quick to start
freakishly smooth
mechanically quiet
freakishly smooth
more motorcycle like
freakishly smooth
more sporty feeling

Being the proud owner of an '04RT and an '05S, they make a great two road bike combo. Fun to ride, easy to maintain, and you just have to love the jugs sticking out in the breeze:thumb Some day I'd like to try a K-bike, but will always love the boxers!:heart
Cheers,
Steve

I admit my in-experience in this matter, but here is my two cents worth anyway. My first, last and current BMW is a 1994 K75S. It will soon be listed in my will as to who inherits it as I never plan to sell it. On top of that, I fully agree with knary's post.

I traded in my 1992 K75S for a 2002 R1150RTP and couldn't be happier.
I viewed the K-bike as a great engine with a mediocre motorcycle surrounding it. The R-bike is an awesome machine all around.
The K-bike had, compared to the R-bike, vastly inferior brakes and handling. The R-bike's ABS is a huge deal to a year-round Seattle-area rider. The K-bike has almost no fairing. After-market options for the K75S fairing are barely an improvement.
Maybe I'll own another older K-bike someday, but it would be for sentimental reasons only.
Technology improves for a reason.
