I don't know the proper name for this thing, but it's the foam bit that goes between my seat and tank. (96 1100R) Had the seat off and the tank lifted up to swap out my tired battery and noticed how worn and nasty this thing was getting. Has anyone else bothered to try to recover it, coat it with something or ??? I don't even want to think what BMW will want for a replacement... and I have a VERY hard time replacing something just because it looks a bit ragged.

I think the function is anti-scratch, so any decent durameter of closed cell rubber pad should work. If the soft-padding aspect isn't needed, straight hard rubber would work. I'd use contact cement as glue. Most major cities have an industrial rubber products supplier, or McMaster-Carr/Grainger would do. Here in SW Mich, Grand Rapids has a good one; walk in, describe what you seek, look through their shelves; if they don't have it, your need is Real special. Good Hunting.
