first time k75s owner. difficulty getting started after winter storage. ready to change plugs, but concerned about how aggressive to be in removing old plugs. can I really yank on the metal tabs?

BMW made a tool that hooked into the hole in the plug cap and you used it to pull straight out. If you don't have such a tool, I'd suggest:
1 - get a set of big flat-jaw pliers. The kind with a stubby squared off jaw
2 - put it over the tab, and turn the cap about 30 degrees in both directions. This helps break loose the rubber insert if it's stuck to the spark plug
3 - PULL straight out. Don't pull at an angle. PULL HARD straight out - try not to punch yourself in the stomach when the cap comes free
Note what cap goes to which plug. The wires ARE numbered.. if you forget, but it's easier if you remember and remember the wire routing.
