Hey, I'm new to the BMWMOA and have a bike that is new to me (just bought it a month ago), a 1995 R1100GS with 25K miles. I just had it in for service and to be checked out. Well, I got it back yesterday and spent today riding around. After filling up the gas tank, I noticed a pretty good fuel leak out a line which I believe is called a breather line or vent line. It is black with a white stripe and runs down the right side of the bike by the swing arm. I'm still getting a drop about every 20-30 sec after 4 hours since filling up. Please help. Thanks, Wes

First off, does your bike still have the charcoal canister? And is it connected? On the presumption that the canister is not there or disconnected, I'm guessing what happened is that you filled up a warm bike, the tank got warm (too), and the gas expanded, going out through the overflow. Next time, don't try to fill it to the rim, because the same thing will happen.

Still have the canister in place and it is still hooked up. Road it to work this morning an ran the gas down some. Talked with the BMW service tech and he thought that perhaps the internal breather line may have a crack in it due to age and was leaking "on the inside" to the outer breather line. When I rode it to work this morning it didn't leak after I parked it. Perhaps the level was below the hole in the breather line. In any case, they said bring it in to get the internal (ie in the tank itself) lines check out and replaced.
