I currently have a K1200RS, and have a serious wonderlust for the K12S, but am wondering if it will be as comfortable for longer rides, due to the sportier ergos. What are your thoughts?

Have enjoyed one since June '05. Owned a K1200RS previously. Comfort is an individual thing. Depends on one's flexibility and shape. That said, I'm 6'4" 200 lbs and very comfortable on the thing. Could take it on multi-day trips without a comfort problem. Perhaps you can take one on a long demo ride? Even if you have comfort uncertainty upon the return I do know one often "adjusts" to the bike over time. And you know, you might find it more comfortable than the KRS. I find a slightly more forward lean more comfortable than one more erect. HTH.

I moved from an 1150RT to a K12S last summer, and put 12,000 mi on the bike w/ a few multi-day trips and lots of 1-day trips. I am 6'1" and 195lbs.
To enjoy the sportier ergos, you will need to use your back and stomach more to maintain body position and keep weight off your hands. This was key for me to be comfortable on long trips. Also, I recommend a peg-lowering kit and a taller windscreen. My bike came with these options, and they definitely give a more comfortable ride (I've ridden it both w/ and w/o these options).
As stated in the previous post, comfort is completely individual concept. However, the 'fun factor' for the K12S is so far beyond previous R and K models, that (like me) you might be willing to sacrifice range for the additional thrills.
Enjoy!

peterh, Do you have any info on the lower pegs? I'm also thinking very seriously about making the leap to the K1200S and am also a little concerned about the sporty riding position.
Thanks for any info....

The peg-lowering kit I have is the DL5 K1200R/S from Suburban Machinery (www.suburban-machinery.com/K1200S.html). It is easy to install and remove. Realize this won't turn the K12S into an LT, but it does place your feet at a slightly more comfortable position. If you use this kit, you'll have to remove the heat shield from the stock exhaust.
good luck,

Thanks for the feedback, I'll try and talk a dealer into letting me put some miles on one before I buy. Loks like I'll have a K12RS and K12LT for sale..............

Gee, thanks, but I'll be looking at used bikes, thank you. Actually, probably abused bikes, as so far I have only purchased "dropped" bikes and wouldn't want to jinx myself by buying a new one and have to be the guy that wrecks it.
