I took the front end apart to reseal the fork sliders because they were leaking. I removed my handlebars and let them hang over the side of the bike. Job complete! when I started my bike the ABS lights flashed intermittent and never flashed simatanously. Ive read about how a low battery will trigger a fault but after riding for a little bit the problem did not go away. So I'm going to get a battery tender and hook it up but what else can I look at? Exactly how can I reset the system? Clymer book somewhat vegue on the matter. I know just enough to get into trouble!

Read this. It will tell you how to read the error coes for the ABS 2 (among other things) You might just get away resetting the error codes and i think it tells you how to do that too.

I could be a reaction to a low voltage condition because the ABS II is overly sensitive to voltage drop. Even just 11 volts can be enough to start the bike but cause the ABS to soft-fail into a low voltage condition.

I suggest to anyone with the ABS II generation system to keep a Battery Tender style charger plugged into the bike if it sits for more than a day or two, or if it is stored in an unheated area. A cold start at temps near 40 F can be enough to cause a low voltage condition.

I bought a battery tender and removed the battery and charged it. I reinstalled the battery and there was no change in the symptoms!
can a test light work when trying to read fault codes? I am not sure if I did the process right. :scratch

No you need an LED. I use my analog VOM. + probe in the center terminal of the diagnostic connector, - probe on the - terminal of the battery. (is that right?)

It took some thought but I finally got it. VOM between plug and ground got a code of 3! Now I just got to look it up. I will post with the results...Scott

I had the same thing: 3 blips of the VOM needle. The wire going to the front wheel sensor was rubbing on the front rim.

Finally fixed!!!!
Error code was still 3. After looking closely at the front pulse generator I found an area where the right fork tube crushed the wire when reinstalled by myself( knuckle head) when I tried to splice the wire together I found green corrosion meaning that it had been done before I did it. I installed a new part $$$$ erased the code and it is ready to go. Thanks for the help......Scott
