Saw this in Paris last weekend. Anybody know if they were exported to the New World?

Of course the were. But with less HP and the same weight to haul around, they were not a big seller and take a beating the the used bike market. In addition, the price difference wasn't that great when new as cost to produce was almost identical to the R 1100 RT.
Some sellers are trying the "rare" tactic when selling with little luck. They certainly are not "collectible", any more than Chromeheads.

????????
Why would you be looking for an RT with less power? The physical size of the bike is the same. Am I missing something?

Paul:
I wasn't aware BMW made these.
I've always liked the smaller engined vehicles available in Europe, such as 1300 cc BMW 3 series cars, Audi A 2's, Peugeot 106's, and the like. You really don't need the big motors over there, with the fuel prices being what they are, and their driving environment.

only ever seen the 850 in a "R" version, never an "RT", at least not in the states

I did a quick check on ebay, cycletrader, and ibmwr, and I found none for sale. They must be extremely rare.

If only they could take the same bike and put the parallel twin engine in it! :thumb

Rented one a few years back while on a trip in Norway. Rode 2up through the mountains and valleys and the bike did fine. At the time, back at home in the USA, I owned an R1100RT and the only differences I noticed were the R850RT had a manual windshield versus the powered one on the R1100RT, the R850RT had better gas mileage and the R850RT had less torque in the powerband.

The 1150RT is not comfortable for me. Not knowing anything about this particular bike, I was hoping for a slightly smaller version of the 1150 RT since all the other attributes suited me.
Although I had no intention of jumping up to a 1200, the MG Norge also had the same features but in a smaller, more manageable package. Less $$$ too.

Never seen one in the states. I rode with a woman from Germany about two years ago. She brought her R850GS over with her. Not for sale in the states as far as I know.

I rode with Christine in Gunnison at the UN Rally a couple of years ago. She sure knew how to ride that bike. Interesting woman, Lutheran Pastor.

Yes they are. Not many buyers wanted to sacrifice the HP to save less than $1,000 when sold new. And BMW's couldn't save enough in production costs (the rest of the bike being the same as the 1100) to make it any cheaper.
It is like riding an under powered R 1100 (because that is exactly what it is).
