I have a '87 k75c, the rear shock was getting a little soft before i took it up the Dalton hwy ("haul road") last summer up to dead horse in northern alska and the rear shock and the seels on both forks busted. the shock is original and seeled so you can't do any maintenence on it. I believe shock technology has gotten better since '87 so i'm looking for a new upgrade. If the company has matching fork springs it would be a big plus. I'm looking for long lasting quality that is good for tretchorous roads and performance when leaning over on pavement as far as possable. A few hundred dollars diferance in price isn't a concern if it could last 20+ years. Does anybody have suggestions? though it's snowing here in fairbanks today i want to have the bike ready for weather above 32F. thanx

The Works rear and their dual-rate springs in the front work well as a medium price solution. If you want to go up in $$$ - then you start getting into Ohlins, Wilbers and Hyperpro territory. I don't believe Ohlins still offers a klassik-K bike shock, both the others do. More $$, but wonderful control and quality.

After making some calls and viewing other threads it seems like Wilbers is the best choice for the money. I called up the place in NJ (wilbers usa) and the guy was telling me that the YSS shock is the same but more than $200 cheaper! Can that realy be? :ear

Call Ted at the Beemer Shop for Wilbers... www.beemershop.com
Wilbers is the only shock that is made fully custom to you.

i just noticed the thread right after this one by Tessler. theres a picture of the wilbers and yss and they look pretty similar. eveything quoted about the yss is from Klaus, the guy who used to be the main US distributor for wilbers and then had a little "friction" with them but he started selling yss before that happened...

(EPM, wilberusa)The YSS shocks are designed by the same guy who designed TechnoFlex, which Benny Wilbers was manufacturing for Technoflex and then copied the design from... So I'd have to guess the YSS is very similar in design to a Wilbers (and Technoflex where they all sprang from.) Just a FWIW..

Progressive makes a shock that will fit.
I have one I am will to sell for $100 + shipping. Used once because it was the wrong
length for my 91 K100RS, which takes a longer shock than earlier K100's and K75's.
You need to know the length measured center of hole to hole to insure it will work.

i just finnished talking with ted from the beemer shop (seems he realy knows his s@#*) and he gave me the full loaded scoop on the whole deal (yss, hyperpro, klaus @ epm, etc...) . I bought a wilbers shock with manual damping (not the hydrolic) because its pretty accesable and for my riding i dont have to change it that often and its $239 cheaper. i paid $549, custom made, 5 year warrenty. I also got the matching fork springs for $119. the worst thing about the shock being custom is the 2-3 week wait. It snowed about five inches yesterday but spring is almost here!... I feel pretty good about my choice and from all the raives i heard about wilbers i doubt i'll be disapointed.

Not sure if you budgeted the future cost of rebuild into the shock and how frequently you have to do it, but its worth noting.

In considering that, I bought a YSS and put it through its rigors on my last trip...still using it today. EPM stands behind product.

Any shock you choose will be a noticeable difference than the stock. Another thing to remember is that you can opt for a height difference by asking for the RT version. Getting the initial set up right of the spring coupled with the shock is equally critical as the shocks manufacturer. Make sure you tell the shock guy what sort of riding you do and what sort of stiffnessness you prefer, etc.
