View Full Version : I am Guilty....

Guilty of helping to promote the positive aspects of the R1200C and CLC family of BMW motorcycles. Now look what's happening.

I have it from a reliable source that there will be an extensive feature article in the May ON about that very same BMW Cruiser family to commemorate the 10th anniversary of this rolling piece of sculpture. Cover photo, testimonials and lots of photos. For those few of us that are fortunate enough to own one (or more), there will be no new news, only un-needed affirmation and acknowledgement that we have chosen one of the finest motorcycles that BMW has ever built.

There have been many who view the BMW Cruiser as a "non-BMW" and we have endured their ridicule for years. "C" owners tend to be a little off the mark of the typical BMW owner (wow, we really ARE an odd lot), but we remain proud and loyal to the brand that we love. The cruiser stimulates images from an era of relaxed and utilitarian riding, bringing modern performance and cutting edge technology, in the most stunning motorcycle to wear the BMW badge in the last several decades.

Pay no attention to the article! I encourage each and every one of you to ignore these complimentary afferings and go about your mundane lives and leave the BMW R1200C family to the few misfits among us that appreciate all it has to offer. If any of you feel the urge to pursue one on your own, please do so without stating your intentions, for such a quest will most certainly escalate the cost of this increasingly collectable and hard to find model. You can, however, go to www.Chromeheads.org to find out more and gain valuable information and meet some of the most dedicated BMW owners out there. Happy hunting.

Wait a minute, there I go again. R1200C? Not a real BMW! Forget what you have read here. Never mind....

I, for one, do not consider the C to be a 'non-BMW'. A kinda' dumb BMW maybe ... :stick

They're not "me", but I do think they are kind of cool looking... :thumb

C stands for Cool and CLC Cool Looking Cruiser.

If it comes back then off to the dealer to buy one for the wife.

Let's never revisit the days of R vs K or the 80's.

They may not be for everyone, but I've always found them to be nicely styled. This one is parked just outside my office today...

I love you guys, but when an R1200C can be passed by a 1970s 400cc Honda on the interstate, you gotta step back and ask yourself exactly what use is the machine...

And besides performance in the saddle ...

I admit we're an odd bunch within an odd bunch but 100+ MPH is more than enough speed for me. Besides, the typical new car is speed limited by the computer for a slower speed than my CLC will go.

Sorry, but I didn't think they went that fast. :lurk

They may not be for everyone,

The problem as I see it is, you could crop large portions of this thing (say, around the front spring) that, without seeing more, one would have difficulty identifying as part of a motorcycle ... :scratch

I always thought BMW's marketing of the cruiser was a good idea, but I don't think we'll see a replacement anytime soon, with their efforts now to bring in younger riders.

And the cruiser market is saturated with models.

I happen to enjoy my R12C. 80 MPH on the interstate and it just purrs like a kitten. I that it was not well received, which in my opinion made it an instant "Classic"
