This may not last, as it is a blatant plug and deserves to be doghoused, it's well, I'm just so excited and relieved and proud to say...

WWW. UNCHAINEDWORLD. COM has my friends, gone live...ta daaa!
http://www.unchainedworld.com

It's a result of a motorcycle ride and a re balancing act.

Do take a look. Contribute and it would be great. Use it and that would be very special and help justify the effort a small group of fellow riders have made in getting this to the first step you see today.

Cheers to you all.

Lamble.

Hey thanks Voni, saw the recommendation.

I've lived this site for a while, so can't remember what it was like to face it the first time. Was it easy to use and all thos eother questions on userability...pm me with your thoughts.

Cheers.

Is there any way Unchainedworld.com could support the National Rally, plotting eateries and stuff on and around the location?

Who should be contacted about that?

You mean I should have paid Sting for the rights to use a distorted version of one of his lyrics, I assume!

Well I won't tell him, if you don't. ssshhhhh!!!!!! :thumb

Very easy to use. Easy to load even on dialup.

I could load a picture from my hard drive, but not one from photobucket I tried to replace it with.

Tough to get the spacing right on the word portion of what I shared. Returns don't work.

Great resource to come.

Love your idea about adding places near Gilette.

I think we could create a special Going to Gilette section where folks could post unchaineds in the area (250 mile radius).

We've spotted a couple of teething problems, including the text spacing setting to centre rather than set left. We'll get it and I'll check out the photo importing.

Thanks for that feedback.

Well done, Steve.

It looks great. I have a couple to add, but not until next week, after I turn in about 4 reports. Besides, I'm still looking for the tea room section.

I love the idea of listing places enroute to Gillette.

You are all so kind.

China is a little empty and there-in lies a problem...sometimes you are so busy enjoying it all, you forget to pick up a card. Then again there's the additional problem of not having any idea where you are!

The plan is to take this on to the next step soon. We will I hope, have an unchainedworld route planner, so any ride can become an unchained ride.

There's a question of how we might make money out of this. I'd like to look at a revenue sharing publishing programme with bloggers, paid for GPS downloads, unchained t shirts and ephemera...perhaps even an unchained tea set.

As a private business owner I love the concept. I'll have to take some time to really dig in and see what's there.

Very Cool:thumb

One week in and 10 countries represented already. Splendid start. Thanks to those of you who have contributed. We'll be changing things around so that you wont have to register to see some things. We'll be adding the route planner and also a feature where you can list unchaineds but undiscovereds, those places you know exist but haven't been to yet.

The feedback has been very positive. I hope we can keep momentum going.

Hi,

Switzerland isn't in your country list. That must be the apex of aggressive pacifism:dunno

I unchained a nice hotel near Luzern and my attached photo is monstrous. For the technically challenged it might be best to have attachments re-sized mysteriously via the other side of the keyboard. I've got more to add so let me know what I did wrong/right?

I went back in and deleted the photo. Also, since there was no CH listing, none of the other stuff showed up so I had to type the address in the description box.

Apparently it's a Google Map thing that Switzerland doesn't exist in the alphabetical order you'd think. It's under H for Helvetica, actually that's wrong, it's under C for Confederatio Helvetica (CH). We have trouble with a couple of other places where the country is listed by the name it is known by within that country, rather than the English version of its name. I've changed it for you.

It's a pain in the rear, because England, Scotland and Wales aren't countries, they are autonomous regions which make up the British Isles which still isn't a country. The United Kingdom is the country officially, so we have to deal with naming conventions that jigger about with technicalities like that too.
On the images, I'll get that looked at, we are supposed to have pre-set dimensional constraints for imported pics.

Thanks for trying though...I'll get back to you soon.

Anyone know who I should contact in BMWMOA about a tie in on the National Rally and unchainedworld.com?
It might be too late for this year, but for next year or other local rallies, I think we might be able to pull something useful together, especially as the route mapping is coming along nicely and would enable you to say, "I'm riding from a-z, here's my route, what unchained are along the way within a 50 mile corridor?"

We should be able to have a service up within the next 12 months that will be able to recognise where you are (Gps phones) and suggest the nearest unchaineds.

Good job I have some techies as part of the team, as I keep saying "wouldn't it be nice if", and they keep saying, "okay we can do that".

I'm still open to ideas that you'd like us to take a look at, design, functionality etc...
