So, what is the best way to replace the fuel filter on the kanaRy's R1150R? I pull the cap assy. off and saw the filter lodged down in the side of the tank. There must be a better way!

Comments?

You have to take the tank off. There's a panel on the inside right underside of the tank. You take that off and the pump, filter and float for the sensor all come out at once. It's kind of a pain in the ass. If you buy a new seal, I think you have to soak them in fuel for a bit to get them properly lubricated, but I could be mistaken there. Once you have everything out, take the old filter off and replace it. I think they come with those dumb crimp on clamps BMW uses. Replace them with some stainless jobs from NAPA.

I think there are some good instructions on the IBMWR website at www.ibmwr.org in the tech section.

The fuel makes the o-ring swell, so you need a new one. Sometimes you can leave the old one out in the sun and it will shrink back down to size, but I'm not patient enough for that.

I use BMW clamps to reattach the filter. They are cheap, and I like them better for small diameter hoses than the worm-gear type hose clamps.

(ps-Doing this project on a Roadster is a piece of cake compared to a K1200LT.) :)
