I just picked up a new set of disk brake pads for my new '88 R100RS and they don't fit. (PN 34112331175) This seems to be the correct part according to on-line fiche. Last 7 of VIN - 6247508

The originals are 55mm wide, with about 1/2mm side play.

On the new ones, the pads are 55mm, but the copper plated backing plates are 57mm.

Is it common to have to "dress" these pads on a grinder to get them to fit? I never had to do this on my GSPD.

I noticed, but didn't mention to the parts guy that one of the pairs was not in its original packaging and had some fingerprints on the backing plate, so had obviously been previously sold or handled by their shop mechanics. I wonder if they were returned to stock because they didn't fit.

Comments?

A couple more thoughts....

The bike is very stock. Original Brembo calipers.

Noticed that the pads I took out were different then the new ones from BMW. New pads are solid, but the originals have a vertical groove separating the half pads. Also the back surface has different markings (nothing to indicate manufacturer on the old pads.)

No. Take them back.
