If the Marines are using motorcycles the bikes probably look something like this one. It was part of the auction at Daytona this year.

Other than the colour the modified Kawasaki KLR650s are much like the commercial ones. The bike in your picture is an Italian SWM design as modified by the British Armstrong firm in the 1980s as a military motorcycle for the British and Canadian military as the M50 and MT500. The engine is a 500cc Rotax made by the Bombardier (now BRP/Ski-Doo/Can-Am) owned Austrian Rotax company. Harley-Davidson bought the design from Armstrong and it has been produced for many years. I believe the British Army still use a 350 cc version now electric start (like the Canadian M50 electric start ones.) I don't know if the US forces used any numbers of the H-D made ones as is in the picture.

The headlight on the right fork may be an infra-red light. current Canadian army KLR250s use I.R. systems to aid in sniper insertion and retrieval work.

I can't speak for the Marines, but this is what I rode, though only on base. They would not let me take it into Fallujah. go figure. the bike is a 350 or 360, I forget, JAWA.
