Have a 1987 K100RS with 37k kilometres on it.
Getting ready to pull the rear drive to grease the splines.
While doing that, going to change the rear fluids.

Anybody used 75W90 Redline synthetic gear oil in the gearbox and final drive?
Happy with your decision?

The Redline meets GL5 specs.

My '96 KRS runs with Beemer 75W-140 in the gearbox and Redline 75W-90NS in the final drive (didn't have access to the 75W-90 Beemer stuff at the time). Can't see any problem with using the Redlines just make sure you use the correct weight oil for the application.

Redline is fine stuff, tho a bit pricey. (it might be overkill in terms of what these bikes need). Some prefer using 75W140 in the trans, but i've always (250,000 miles and counting) used either 75W90 or 80W90 as per BMW specs. Synth is fine, and many report smoother shifting with it, tho its not necessary. I generally use something like Castrol's Syntec semi-synthetic.

A few years ago I started using RedLine Heavy Shockproof Gear Oil 75W250 (which, they say, is the equivalent of SAE 75W90) in both the tranny and final drive of my '97 K1200RS. No issues so far and the transmission seems to shift more smoothly.
