Tonight I ran into a problem with the electrical setup on my 1982 R100RT. When using the left turn signal, it flashes rapidly left front, nothing at the rear. Turning the lever/knob to the right gives the exact same response (yes, the left light is flashing). When braking, the rear light dims, there's seemingly no response in the brake light and there's a faint glow in the rear left turn light. The flasher relay seems to work ok.

Before I start tearing things apart, has anybody experienced this before? My prime suspect so far is the headlight relay which, if I am reading the wiring diagram correctly, seems to be somehow connected to all the faulty lights. Or could there be a short-circuit somewhere else? Help!

check your mult-pin connector thats goes to rear section, you can find it on the left side of the battery .

This sounds like a ground problem to me. There is probably a corroded ground in your light circuit.

I learned this from working on trailers. A broken or corroded ground will cause the signal lights to ground back through themselves and flash funny and dim.

Thanks, that was one of several corroded/loose connections. Everything's working now. This is one Great Site!
