View Full Version : K75RT - Is the sidestand bent?

I LOVE this bike so far. It is much more than I expected.

When I get stoped and deploy the sidestand, the excessive lean angle really makes me uncomfortable. There is a slight angle in my sidestand.

1) Is the sidestand supposed to be "bent"? I don't think there would be much difference in the angle either way...

2) I there a solution such as a longer sidestand?

Thanks in advance....

JP:

When deployed, mine looks like its ready to topple over too. BUt from what I understand, its more secure that way than if it was on its centerstand.

Same thing on my K100LT. Had a K75-same thing.

Friends always question how far my K100RT is leaned over. Apparently that's normal for the older Ks.

91 K75RT-also leans a lot. I read on another site that a hockey puck bolted to the foot will bring the bike to a better lean angle.

I heated and slightly straightened the side stand on my K75S. It took very little change to bring the bike more vertical. You have to be very careful when changing the stand angle to be sure the stand still tucks up into the exhaust depression and it doesn't interfere with the center stand. I tried the hockey puck trick but the added length wouldn't allow the center stand to come down.

On my F650GS Dakar I actually had to cut the side stand tang off the frame and re-weld it back on at a different angle to bring the bike back from the brink of tipping over. I was up to a puck and a half added to the end of the stand so something had to be done.

Try checking the sidestand for excessive play where it attaches to the frame. On my K100LT I had some excessive play that was caused by a loose attach bolt. This slop created slightly more lean angle. After I secured the bolt the excessive play was removed and the lean angle was better.

I've never heard that. Is that true? I put mine on the center stand b/c it is easier to load things up. Set stuff on the seat while getting ready (gloves, glasses, etc.), and putting things into both side bags.

I agree w/ tighting the bolt that is underneath. Maybe ever four months or so I give it a bit of turn and it takes up the slop and the lean over is reduced a bit.

It depends. If the bike is stable on the sidestand - that is, the stand is long enough so that the bike isn't leaned over excessively - then yes, it will be more stable than if on the centerstand. (Visualize the triangles of support. The front wheel/centerstand feet triangle is pretty narrow; the front wheel, back wheel, and sidestand foot on a K is pretty wide.)
