Just found this in a regional online want ad.

This bike is as beautiful as the day it rolled out of the factory!

with aftermarket wheels and paint job.

but agreed, beautiful. i'm potentially in the market for one of these, but i doubt the guy would be up for a x-country trade on a 99S.

It's not $10,000 pretty.

I totally agree. It looks to be a '77 that's been modernized quite a bit, it even has the alternate badges on it, which are definitely not something you'd have seen in 1977.

It is a nice looking bike, it would be interesting to see what all's been done to it, other than the obvious cosmetic upgrades.

a bit of a mish-mash (wrong bags for '77, look to be chromed Lester wheels, Motosport emblems circa '78, etc), altho a very nicely painted one at that. $10 large is pristine immaculate low-mileage collector's pricing, and a mish-mashed repainted bike is not a collector's machine. someone's dreaming.

Check the area code. Perhaps the price is CDN $?

Email reply address is .ca. I'd agree that someone is really dreaming on this one. Similarly, there's an Austrian dreamer on ebay with this one, with a Buy-It-Now of €7,000 (that's also over $10K, folks):

It is currently deservedly languishing at $1600 or so.

Since I have one of these early RS beasts, I tend to keep an eye out. IMHO, you'd do better with the US '78 Motorsport with ratty paint that just failed to reach reserve on ebay at $3400 in mid-March:

or the '77 in similar condition that's there now (current bids are at $2500) in its original color:

It also has the wrong wheels - see the '78 for the correct 'snowflakes', but for a realistic price, that's easy to remedy for another couple hundred bucks.

I really would like to get a set of those Motorsport roundels, though. Seems the Motorsports didn't originally come with 'em. :cry

no bikes came with the Motorsport roundels. Add-on only.
and i'd agree, if you want an old classic RS ('78 Motorsport, any one of the Euro spec'd 77's or '78s, or the first year '77), better to just find one in need of paint than a gussied up incorrect one.
that said, once my my '78 Motorsport S is resurrected, it will be non-original (red frame, pearl white body, blue/blue pinstriping, wire wheels, etc.). whatever.

My '77 needs the correct paint and windshield, but other than that, it's pretty much stock, except for things like suspension. I've even got the blue-striped spoke wheels.

There's a gentleman that does complete frame-up restorations that would like to purchase my RS. I've seen his work, it's very, very good. He makes them as if they're new. Maybe someday, I'll sell it to him...or not.
