Neutral switch quit working

The neutral switch started acting flacky and has quit working.

I checked the wireing and it is all good. Pulled the switch and it checks good.
What could be wrong inside the transmission?

1978 R100/7 bike but the transmission is a few years newer.

My R100RS did the same thing. I was too lazy to pull the switch out and replace it, so I learned to live with it.
