I'm wondering if my low-fuel indicator works. A couple times I've riden until there are no longer any fuel indicators on the RID, the bike takes 5.7 to 6.1 gal, but the low-fuel light never came on.

Is there a bulb check or something I'm missing during start or while the bike is running, or is this a job for the dealer?

My low fuel light comes on when I have 1 tick left on the fuel gauge. It does not come on during starting. I have an 02R1150RT.

If your bike is under warranty, your dealer should take care of it.

Has it ever worked? Has the fuel filter ever been changed?

Same here. 04R1150RT. I believe the manual says it comes on with one gallon of fuel left in the tank.

On my 1100Rt it usually comes on about 10 to 12 miles after I lose the second to last bar. That (light on) normally happens around the 240mile range. At that point, I believe there is approximately .9 gal left or maybe around 30 miles. Although, I did drive it 32 miles one day after the light came on and only put 6.8 gal in.

Judging from the volume of posts here, my low fuel indicator is probably broke - She's still on warranty so I'll just run her into the shop this week. She needs new tires anyway.

Thanks for all the responses!

Oh my, You sound like Cosmo Kramer and that car salesman seeing how far they can push the SAAB on that test drive ..... ;-)

Thanks, I never would have guessed I could get that range !

I did the math in my head. 6.8 gallon tank with 1 gallon left once the light comes on. So I figured if I did 300 miles on 5.8 I should get 30 on 1 gallon. Then again I might be wrong about the capacity :brow

Yep, my light comes on with one bar remaining on the RID. I only saw it once because I always set the trip odometer and refuel about 200 miles. But once on the turnpike the light came on, one bar left, I got gas almost immediately and it took 5.1 gallons into a 6.5 tank. Next time I will know. Lots left when light on, can go far. Life is good

I have gone as far as 30 mi. with the light on (95 GS). It does not come on until well after the RID has no bars left. I thought it might be broken as well. Nope, just slow.

The last bar in my RID goes out with at least 2 - 2.5 gallons left in the tank. I usually chicken out and fill up before the low fuel like comes on.

Having ridden H-D Sportsters all my life with only 2.2 gal. TOTAL, I hope to NEVER see the low fuel light illuminate. But I have put 5.5 gal. in my RT without the light being on. Guess you could carry a 1 gal. container of gas
and drive the RT until 1 of 2 things happens! At least then you would know. ;)
