The progressive front springs for Progressive Suspensions part# 11-1126 displace EXACTLY the same amount of oil as the stock springs (I've checked).

For the Sport front forks:
Use 290cc or ml (9.0oz.) of 7wt. :thumb

Can you use those same springs in an '85 K100?
Or do we have different forks?
I called Progressive about fork springs a few months ago and all they wanted to talk about was new forks. I got the impression they didn't sell just the springs.
Hummmm

my part# is 11-1509. a note in the box says these springs are good for BMW models k100rs '92; k75/a/s/rt '92-95; k75s '92-'95; r100r '92-'96; r65 '92-93; r80/rt '92-'95. i'm sure they make spings for your bike.

I apologize. They changed forks in 08/91. (hence, the different spring part #)

The Clymers manual still list the same oil quantity for all Sport suspension K75 and K100 as 270-290cc.

Consult the spring mfr. inst., your owners manual and your Clymers manual.

If you need to determine if the new springs displace the same amount of oil as the stock springs, take a container (I use a piece of PVC with a cap on one end), fill with water to the brim.

Take the stock spring and spacer, with a piece of thread tied to it, and dip it into the container.
Let the excess water spill out (you don't have a choice).

Remove stock spring and spacer. without refilling container, dip new spring and spacer in container. The amount of water it takes to fill the container back to the top with the new spring in there is the amount that that spring is smaller than the stock spring. If the new spring is larger in displacement, do this test new spring/ then stock spring to tell how much more the new spring displaces.

USUALLY you want the same oil volume + spring + spacer displacement as stock to yield the stock air space.

This doesn't sound right for a '92. Clymer's calls for 410cc for all k75 models, '92 on.

My Clymers is a second edition, second printing from Oct. 1997 for K-Series 1985-1995.
They only list one capacity for the sport suspension (270-290cc) and one for the standard suspension (320-330cc).

Is it possible that Clymers overlooked the change six years after it happened? :dunno

Please send your listings for all K75 fork capacities along with the print date of your manual. I'm sure many people with newer K75s and older edition manuals would appreciate the opportunity to correct their manuals. I've updated mine.

My 3 K75Ss are all very early models, so I defer to your familiarity of the newer forks.

Thanks.

My Clymer's is Third Edition, Second Printing May, 2004. Chapter Fourteen Supplement covers 1990-Later, K75-K1100 Models.

Table 9, Front Fork Oil Type and Quantity, page 615, shows the following:

K75 models (1992 on), 410cc (13.8oz)
K100 models, 400cc (13.5oz)
K1100 models, left leg, 349-351cc (11.7-11.8oz)
K1100 models, right leg, 399-401cc (13.4-13.6oz)

All are spec'd with BMW fork oil, ESSO Komfort. No viscosity/weight is given.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the heads up Dave.:thumb

Even my older edition has Chapter 14: Supplement

I've never gone there (my bikes run pretty strong so I didn't think they needed "supplements"):stick

I would have thought, after so many editions, they could have:

1. incorporated each supplement into the appropriate chapter

2. referenced the supplements at the end of the appropriate chapter

or

3. at least in the index list it as more than just "Chapter Fourteen-Supplement"

like maybe "1990-later Supplement".

There is nothing to draw your attention to it.

I've yet to read the entire manual (I start to fall asleep after a few chapters because the plot is rather slow):snore , so I haven't gotten to chapter 14 yet. Thanks for spoiling the ending:bluduh Now I won't be surprised.

Thanks again for pointing that info out.:thumb
