My new '02 LT with 24k has never to my knowledge had an issue with the clutch or seals. With the "low mileage" of a 6 year old machine, would it be wise to drill the weep hole? I'm not sure if I should add that to my list for this spring or wait until next winter to dive in.:dunno

I drilled mine for piece of mind, but then I am a maintenance fanatic. Most of the experts claim that the slave will last until 40K before problems. I figured that I would rather spend a day drilling the hole and potentially save the clutch. I guess it depends on how many miles you ride and in what conditions.

Highway miles where you shift to get up to speed and shift to stop puts a lot less wear on the slave Vs stop & go city traffic.

A few people claim the failure is caused by the throw out bearing siezing which then causes the piston in the slave to spin and that ruins the seals in the slave.

If you decide to drill the hole, make sure you the neccessary tools to retorque the pivit bearings on the swing arm and final drive.

Go to the BMWLT website, there is a ton of info on the procedure etc.
