That sounds familiar!
My original BMW Mareg battery lasted 8 full years quitting in the middle of the 9th. I'm now on my second BMW Mareg battery. This on a 1990 R100 GS.
Why mess with what works! I doubt those "high-tech" batteries of today would last any longer.

Second that--there aren't any 8-year batteries besides the ones you've been using.

Except for the "original" Panasonic in the 1990 Toyota Tercel. That makes it 18 years old and still cranking even on the coldest sub-zero days.
Now where did that Energizer Bunny go...running for cover, I'd think. :laugh

My replacement is lasting just as long.
I only hope the dealer prepped the battery correctly.
It should have been filled with the proper acid (SG 1.285) and left to sit about a half-hour. Then after agitating the battery a bit to dislodge any air bubbles/pockets, it should be topped up with more acid to the "Max" level line (acid is only added during the initial filling).
Then a slow charge with a manual charger and monitoring the voltage with a DMM to finish it off.

I am a big fan of dry cell batteries, but if you have had a stock battery for 8 years and the replacement lasted that long as well, why mess with it.... I would use the stock battery again...
