After installing new brake disks and pads I go out for a test. Three miles out and the left side float bowl falls off. Not sure why but I must have dislodged it while I was working on the bike. Of course the bowl gets run over and smashed.
Not having anyone to call I get out some black tape and tape up the float and run back home on one head. Love that I could do that.
The new bowl came today put it on and crap the left head will not fire. Switch plugs, no change. Find I do have spark and the plug is comming out dry, I'm not getting gas. Float is working the valve is filling up the bowl. I contacted the Bing agency and with a bid of advice cleaned out the jets. There was a hugh amount of gunck in the Carb, so it apears this was about to happen no matter what.
After cleaning the carb as best i could with out a full dismantall the head will still not fire. Not knowing where to go from here I have ordered rebuild kits and will go through both carbs and get them back into shape.
I am guessing the gunk is coming from the air box. It apears the plumbing is OK, the oil level at the max, but not over. The bike is new to me so the oil may have been high at one time. My goal is to get the bike running great for a couple of long trips this summer.. The bike was running great and strong before I dropped the float bowl.

If the bike will still run on the right cylinder, don't mess with the right carb for the time being. No sense adding more variables to the problem. I'd suggest removing the left air tube and spraying some starter fluid into that carb as you try and start the bike. If it runs on two cylinders when you do this, then you have isolated the problem to that carb.

Disassembly and a thorough cleaning of the carb might remove the obstructions that are preventing fuel from being drawn up into the carb. By removing the left air tube, you can also see if the diaphragm is moving the needle when the engine is running.

Good Luck.........

Thanks Moose, sometimes one can't see the forest for the trees. I did as you sugested, squirted like crazy and still no fire. I then switched plug wires and bam both heads fire. Got me some new plugs wires comming. Thanks again. Feel like I still need to rebuild the carbs but at least I will be able to ride in the meantime..

Remember that old adage "if it's got gas, spark, and compression it's gotta run".
