Folks,
I am relocating to Chicago from San Antonio (don't ask why I would trade for 12 riding months to 8 in a good year) and will be dragging my 97 R1100R on a trailer next week. I can't drive it straight through and need to be staying somewhere around Memphis. Where is a safe place to stay? Is there anyway to protect the bike from theives or am I worrying too much? Car too will also be packed full of stuff. Any thoughts?
Thanks.
Pete

Loaded car attracts thieves like sugar attracts flies. Trailer should be locked to car, bike should be chained to trailer and chain through the wheels of the trailer. Try to park directly in front of the office and ask the night people to watch it. They may not, but it will make you feel better. I have stayed in Memphis a few times, they are several chain motels in West Memphis Arkansas, can't speak for their rate of crime etc. Good luck.

Your not in Arkansas too long on the way up, I's recommend skipping Memphis TN and West Memphis AR altogether, there is a nice town a few miles north of West Memphis I thought was OK the last time I was around there with a chain motel with an attacherd Chinese Rest. I kinda liked, right off the interstate.

One of the first two I think, felt like a safer area to me.

...remove bags, roll the bike right into your room.
It's been done.

.... can't drive straight through? Just over 1,200 miles may be a bit much I suppose. Sleep in the car at a truck stop (s)? Camp? Small town motel with room away from road? Back the trailer in as tight as possible toward your room... use some good chain....use dark bike cover. :dunno -Bob

My son lives in Blythville, AR. The town is 60 miles from the I40-I55 junction. There are several hotels on I-55 at the 2nd exit. The Holiday Inn has an indoor swimming pool.
If you chain and lock your bike, more than likely no one will mess with it. I wouldn't worry about it. If a professional thief wants your bike, he will get it no matter what you do. However, most motorcycles are not worth the effort to cut chains in a public place.
