Any member or friend of a member with a plane attending Osh Kosh this year?
Just looking to camp under your wing for a couple of days. Willing to do some polishing.
Thanks, John.

Well Camp Scholler (http://www.airventure.org/2007/planning/camp_scholler_guidelines.html) is right next to the field and camping there doesn't cost all that much. Tip: get to the showers by 05:00 in the morning or you are rubbing elbows with the next guy.

Have fun at the best airshow in the world!

If you really want to get involved contact the EAA and ask about volunteering.

The fly-in is like a rally. Alot of like minded people having a great time. Just hang out and I'm sure someone would make space for you under a wing.

I'm not a flyer but I did live 2 blocks from Wittman field for 8 years. It turned me into an airplane nut by proximity.

Have fun and expect one blazing hot day and one severe storm. It happens almost every year.

I haven't been in years since I'm not that involved in aviation anymore (I used to be a full-time flight instructor for years).

I went four years running; 1990 to 1993. Once with my Yamaha XT350, twice with my BMW R100 GS, and once with my car to pick up a slew of aircraft tools for an RV-4 I was going to build. In the end, I chose to stick to motorcycles; more practical and a whole lot less work. Aircraft ownership is like boat ownership; you're happy the day you buy them and you're happy the day you sell them.

Oshkosh! Whether an airplane nut or not, its got to be one of the best events...period!

Don't I know it. I've never seen a thunderstorm like the one I experienced curled up in my tent in Camp Scholler.

Some people didn't properly tie down their aircraft...they had to get home by some other means.

I don't know ... I was happier the day I finally sold the boat than the day I bought it. Of course it helped that the money from the boat bought my first motorcycle! ;)

Bought and sold a bunch of sailboats. Never happy to see one go.

I last went in 1991, just after the first Iraq war. Four of us flew out in a Cessna Turbo 182 RG. We phoned in an instrument flight plan with Chicago Flight Service direct, and they gave us a 15 minute arrival window, so the flight planning was a little tense. Ours was the last flight they let in IFR.

We boarded with a wonderful family in town. At the show there was an F 117 on display, and I spoke with the pilot, who had been one of the first to go into downtown Baghdad. His description of the mission was incredible; he said it was like flying right into the middle of a fireworks display. He said he just lowered the seat so he wouldn't have to look outside.

The other interesting guy I met was an A 10 driver, also an Iraq vet. He gave me a real good explanation on selection of weapons mixes for different kinds of targets and target environments.

I had a great time.

Make sure you don't accept any invites from Mooney owners, John. :laugh
