My wife and I will be traveling to Reno for four days. Have never been there, and any information, good motor routes, not to miss stuff, ect. on area would be appreciated. Thanks.

Check out Virgina City. It's about 25 miles SE of Reno on SR 341. It's kind of touristy, but the history of the area is worth checking out. Continue south until you get to Route 50 and head west to Lake Tahoe. Great scenery and plenty of interesting places to check out/eat whatever you're into. It's a very cool area.

Have fun

If you've got an extra day and a bike is available that has a good size gas tank, try riding out highway 50 all the way to Ely and then back. They call it the lonliest highway in the country with good reason. If you were the suicidal type, you could take along a case of beer, stop halway to Ely and drink and relieve yourself 'till its all gone and never see another car. I have enjoyed slalom riding down the center lines for extended periods of time.:rocker

Avoid the Pepper Pot or Peppermill. It's full of people plugged into slot machines having their souls and life savings drained from them.

If you do go, take a look at the mange on the bear over the swimming pool. That thing needs refurbishing.

There's a decent BMW dealer in the area, Sierra BMW, they'd be able to tell you where's worth a visit.

Have fun. I didn't and couldn't wait to get out of the place.
Next time I rode down there, I took the ring road and managed to miss the whole city.

Old Ely, Nevada is worth the trip across US50, as one of America's favorite biker roads. Spend the night in Ely, camping at the KOA for great grassy tent sites or downtown in the 1800's Casino. All worth the drive across Nevada. Reno is very nice, but only so much in one city. The Virginia City route is a nice afternoon ride too. Quite a tourist trap, but worth seeing if you've never been there. Atop a mountain and maybe not as you may expect, is Virginia City:). All of this area is quite "old west" and a history lesson is around every corner. Take the time to read up on the area. Happy Trails, Randy13233. PS; I live just over the Sierra Nevada Mountains from all this good stuff:):thumb

All good ideas, don't forget to ride around Lake Tahoe.

Time of year?

Time available?

I'd do the same things, but you'll have different experiences.

Definitely drive the Tahoe loop, the MOST beautiful place I've ever been. Snow and skiing in the winter. Beautiful scenery year round. South Lake Tahoe CA, Heavenly and Stateline NV on the south shore. Tahoe City and Squaw Valley to the northwest. Truckee and Donner Lake/Donner Pass a little farther north. It's all good!

Have a great time.

What time of year?
Have you been to the west coast before?

I -gag- lived in Reno -gag- for three years. The town itself is a cultural black hole, IMHO. But there's majestic beauty within easy reach of the city if you're willing to drive/ride.

Thanks everyone. We are going to a freinds wedding, then we plan to hit the road for three days.
