I've started to make my own wine........
bought a kit for xmas and have the first batch in the bottles.
Now I need to build myself a wine rack. Anyone got a good design for a wine rack that they'd like to share?
Store bought racks are way too pricey!
thanks

Wine making, a labor of love. I hope you enjoy the labor of your fruits!

So what kit did you use, what type of wine? Was it worth the work? Are you aware you can buy a bottle for under $10? Sorry, that's what people used to ask me when I was brewing my own beer...........I'm thinking of trying the wine making sometime soon. I already have most of the equipment from the beer making.

I started making my own wine and beer over ten years ago. There are some excellent kits out there now that can rival store bought wines. Of course I still like to pick up a few fine vintages whenever we get out to the wineries in the Okanagan area in BC.
I built a full wine cellar in our baseemnt and made these racks.

You could make something like this fairly easily using plain plywood if the appearance is not critical. I sized each square to hold a dozen bottles (13.25" x 13.25" inside). The diagonals just slip in and let me stack the bottles six and six. I made the rack on the other side shorter and made spaces to hold a few bottles on display on the top.

The kits I buy come in fairly heavy duty boxes. I use the boxes as wine racks. Wine making is a great hobby.

we bought a kit from Vintners Reserve, to make a Blush cost about $50.00.
we have bought a 2nd kit from the same makers for a Viognier similar cost.
With $60.00 in equipment that I can reuse over and over. The kit makes aobut 30 bottles of wine, we bought new bottles at a cost of about $1.10 each so we've got about $2.50 a bottle in cost. How can you go wrong?
