View Full Version : Post your one day ride photo.....

I thought it would be great if we could see your one day ride photo.
The rule, well not rule but suggestion is to post just one photo of a ride you took TODAY, not a photo of a ride you took last week or two months ago.
I'll get it started:
I live in Bozeman, Montana and today we had a little thaw, so it looked good to head out for a ride. I headed up highway 86 and made the hot coco turn at Bridger Ski Bowl after watching the crowd slip slide down the hill. My photo was taken this morning just before leaving with the Bridger Mountain range in the background and the temperature at a sunny, balmy 22 degrees F. The forecast is for more snow tomorrow...yikes!
Cheers!

Great Kiddo, Bowzer pic.....
The bike is so clean because it has been hanging out in the garage most of the winter.
I've had "Remy" since it's birth in 2,000 and he now has 92K on the meter.

You can always sit on the bike in the garage (or whereever, living room, kitchen, bedroom) and go Zaroom Zaroom, Sreeeech, Clink Clink (while in full gear, of course, or in your jammies for that matter) and then take a photo
just blurr out the background and who's gonna know?:laugh

I went for a ride on Saturday afternoon. I washed the bike for the second time this winter, and she was all wet and pretty afterwards, so she needed a ride to dry off and show off the clean paint, metal, rubber and plastic.
I headed east from my house in south Snohomish county to I-405. I-405 was ridden southbound for a bit until I came to SR 522, which I took east to Woodinville. I took the Woodinville-Duvall Road to Duvall, and then headed north on SR 203 to Monroe. In Monroe, I stopped for photos at the Lewis Street Park along the banks of the Skykomish River.

http://dvandkq.net/images/20080223-020.jpg
After leaving Lewis Street Park, I retraced my route back to Duvall. Instead of heading west along the Woodinville-Duvall Road, I crossed the Snoqualmie River and then headed south along the west side of the river until I reached the Novelty Hill Rd. I took the Novelty Hill Road up and over Novelty Hill and Redmond Ridge to the Avondale Rd, which I took north to 124th St. NE. 124th St. NE took me back to I-405 for the short ride on the slab back to south Snohomish county.

After spending 6 hours listening to the drone of a bunch of suits during the New Employee Orientation for my new job I really needed to clear my head and when I stepped outside it was 71 Degrees! Oh Yeah! Time for a ride! Since the HQ was near 66 that heads straight west toward Blue Ridge the choice of destinations was obvious.
A quick buzz down 66 got me to one of my favorite roads, namely Old Route 55. After wondering around for a bit I came across a road I hadn’t explored so I hung a quick left of 55 and after around a 100 feet of pavement I found myself looking a steep uphill grave road that disappeared around a sharp righthander. After debating for moment if I wanted to tackle a twisty gavel road on the Autobasu (Highway Pig) I figured what the f… the GPS SAID it went thru so at least I wouldn’t have to worry about wrestling the beast in one-lane gravel turn-a-round (or so I hoped!) I headed up the road. Good choice as it turned out.
Most of these were tough to shoot since I was shooting into a setting sun under a clear sky....
The Road…

A nice rock wall around an old cemetery..
http://roadrunes.com/images3/march03-ride/road-2-web.jpg
At the far end of the road was a nice old house circa 1860
http://roadrunes.com/images3/march03-ride/house-1-web.jpg
I wound up near another favorite road that goes thru another small town called Aldie where there is a nice little lake with a “Swan Crossing” sign across the road..

An old tree stub by the lake…
http://roadrunes.com/images3/march03-ride/tree-1-web.jpg
And with the recent and decent amount of rain of late the old stone damn finally has water flowing over it….

A ride out to the desert, testing out a route for an upcoming club ride. Tons of people were out enjoying the fresh crop of desert wildflowers. Took the long way home. 240 miles. Hot in the desert (85) dropping to 60*F at the top of the mountain (more or less Julien) and back to 72 just before hitting home.
And the wild flowers were worth it.

Wickliffe Ky, close to the confluence of the Mississippi and Ohio river. The cross which sits on the river bluffs, 90 ft tall, serves as a beacon for the hundreds of tows, and the thousands of men and women, that ply the two rivers.
13035
In 1780 during the Revolutionary War, General George Rogers Clark established Fort Jefferson on a hill overlooking the Mississippi River one mile south of present-day Wickliffe. The fort was intended to protect what was then the western boundary of the infant United States from raids by the British Army and Native Americans. It was abandoned in 1781 after a siege by the Chickasaw.
The site later served as a Union Army post during the American Civil War. General Ulysses S. Grant directed a demonstration against the Confederate-held position at Columbus, Kentucky, in January 1862. Troops from the post joined in capturing Fort Henry in February 1862. It served as a Union supply post for operations in the western theater of the war.
A 90-foot tall cross, the Fort Jefferson Memorial Cross at the Confluence, was completed in 2000 on Fort Jefferson hill.

Just a quick jaunt up to Skykomish, WA... An old railroad town.
Images below are taken in the front of and the side of the Skykomish Hotel...

I really this one, I take it it is a crop of the first one? The grain of the building really adds rather than detracts as it gives the building an "old time" look that is in keeping with the wooden structure and the contrast of the modern machine in much sharper details again adds to the overall effect and heightens the contrast of new and old.

Today's pictures are still on the camera... (and it was a VERSYS day today as it had been sitting neglected in the garage for almost two weeks.) On Sat 14 Jun, the BMW Motorcycle Club of Ottawa met at the Carp Farmer's Market for a Road/GS Ride to Palmer Rapids via Calabogie and back. As the day started overcast with showers, most of us didn't know whether to bother wearing raingear or just hope the showers were light and fast. As it turned out, the raingear wasn't needed and by afternoon the temperature was mesh riding gear warm...

We stuck closer to home this weekend cause the afternoon thunderstorms have been brutal.
I took the opportunity to venture down roads less traveled. Sometimes that means you run out of road and onto the dirt.
Now I know some of you look for that kind of opportunity...but some bikes are not crazy about it.
We stopped to check Garmin to see if this one ended soon, it did, and was in nicer shape than paved roads we've been on recently.

I saw a huge amount of parents and kids in the stores in Bozeman buying the back to school stuff and so I've noticed how quiet the roads are around Yellowstone.
The pic is of the Roosevelt Arch built in 1903, it's made of local volcanic rock and basalt.
The cost to build it was $10,000 dollars......I can't imagine the cost today!

Just a little putt putt around the county on the R100. The hills are still brown, but rain's coming this weekend. In another few weeks, they'll be as green as the hills outside Dublin, Ireland.
But, in the meanwhile, the roads are dry, the weather is fine and it's the time where we have some of our best riding.

In September I rode my 07 G.S. out to California with the thought that it would be great to store a bike their over the winter, flying out from time to time for a ride.
The trip out went well except for these unique hightlights.
1. Near Elko NV a trucker didn't think I gave him enought room to merge so he chased
me at 95 mph, running up on my tail to make a point?
2. Outside of Truckee Ca. a pickup truck hauling four ATV's dropped a five gallon can
of gasoline that did flips in front of me and bounced off of my right knee.
3. When I arrived in San Fran. I rented a car for a day and within five minutes I was
pulled over by the CHP.......I didn't know it was now illegal to chat on a handheld
cell phone while driving in CA. This was the first time I've been stopped in 25 yrs.
4. After storing my bike for one month in my friends car port, his neighbor reported
me to the Ca. Highway Patrol for having an unregistered vehicle in state.
Google: CHP Cheaters.....it's really interesting! I had to explain I hadn't moved
Calif. but was just visiting.
I'm back in Montana today and I went for a ride in Bozeman with the Temp. at a beautiful 72!
The photo was taken at Bridger Golf course about noon today.
Cheers!

Having left Montana in order to escape winter for a couple of days, I stumbled across the "wienermobile" a real piece of americana. Photo was taken Jan. 7, just before a ride to the Valley of Fire.

Yesterday most of the ice had melted off the side streets. It was a cloudless day with little wind and the temperature had finally climbed into the 40s. So I rode out to the next town - 30 miles away - an abandoned railroad stop. It's just a straight, flat two-lane, but it was great to be back on the bike!
